This movie is from 1976, still Scandinavian movies were mostly known for their unrestrained sexuality or philosophical / religious artists like Bergman but not for an action movie. As much as I admired Bo Widerberg as director I had never seen him directing an action thriller and (it should not surprise me) he was brilliant in that.
Very verite this one.I caught a couple of scenes from this during the early days of HBO.
And perhaps the best opportunity I have Stateside to explain its appeal after my first viewing nearly 30 years ago.The novels featuring Martin Beck were skillfully written by a married pair of avowed Marxists in a style that was clinical yet neither entirely detached nor heavy-handed.
